Novel Lives

Book Publicity, Book Reviews, And Author Interviews

Stacking the Shelves- A Very Special ARC Version Featuring Gomez, Pavel and Liam

Stacking the shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality In the past I’ve shared 3-5 books on my shelves (mine, borrowed or library books- I have considered sharing books not on my “physical” shelves but maybe on my TBR shelf to help me think about whether they should stay or go- like a mini down the TBR hole) that I haven’t read yet and tell you a bit about them in order to share the love and maybe enable you to grow your TBR shelves.

Liam, the ever protective agent checked out all materials before letting his clients begin.

ANYHOW, this week, something very special happened. I received my first ever book mail from publishers (well from anyone, really, since the one book my mom bought me for my birthday because I just don’t have the money to buy any, myself- it is eARCs and the library or bust), since I left education almost a year ago. Before continuing to the fun I want to make two things clear that I feel have to be said because I have been accused of it in the past over eArcs and libraries:

  1. I am so proud that my little blog has grown enough to gain faith in to receive a few  hard copy ARCs from publishers.

2.I’m going to say this once: THIS POST IS NOT A BRAG. I AM CELEBRATING. I AM EXCITED. I OWN HARD COPY BOOKS OF MY OWN AND HAVE BEEN TRUSTED TO REVIEW THEM AND FOR THIS I AM BOTH GRATEFUL, HUMBLED AND EXCITED. I know it is a privilege. I will not accept being attacked for it. PLEASE, I ask that if you can not be supportive that you understand I am aware of the privilege those of us in North America have and if I had the financial means, I would do more to help others.

Please note: I have noted that the release date one the spines of the books are different then the current release dates given on Amazon and/or Goodreads. I am listing the release dates on the spines of the book as that is from the publisher.

JACKPOT BY NIC STONE- October 2019 (no date)

The slide show of four photos show Gomez’s continuing obsession with Nic Stone (if you haven’t seen the full photo of him reading Odd One Out I’ll post it below) and her new book Jackpot. It is due to be released in October (according to the spine of the book) by Crown Publishing. Thank you to Nic Stone and Crown Publishing for this ARC!

Sneaky one Ms. Stone is, too. I knew Tiffany Jackson was planning a new book. I had no idea Jackpot was coming and I’m pretty good at stalk… um I mean keeping up with two of my favorite authors… then one day BOOM…. JACKPOT! #Rimshot. Ok… bad joke but the coffee hasn’t kicked in  yet.
From Goodreads (PLEASE ADD TO YOUR TBR Shelf)!!!!:
From the author of the New York Times bestseller Dear Martin –which Angie Thomas, the bestselling author of The Hate U Give, called “a must read”–comes a pitch-perfect romance that examines class, privilege, and how a stroke of good luck can change an entire life.
Meet Rico: high school senior and afternoon-shift cashier at the Gas ‘n’ Go, who after school and work races home to take care of her younger brother. Every. Single. Day. When Rico sells a jackpot-winning lotto ticket, she thinks maybe her luck will finally change, but only if she–with some assistance from her popular and wildly rich classmate Zan–can find the ticket holder who hasn’t claimed the prize. But what happens when have and have-nots collide? Will this investigative duo unite…or divide?
Gomez and Get Nicced

How it all began (and yes I have pictures of him reading Allegedly- no- none of these are staged- I have a witness)                   but the pictures of him reading Allegedly is on the boy’s phone and he isn’t here at the moment.

EIGHT WILL FALL BY SARAH HARIAN- 11/25

Sarah probably doesn’t remember this but I have been tracking this book since the I read the synopsis when I happened to see the publishing rights were bought. It was completely random that I saw it on twitter. I don’t track the buying of publishing rights of books. But I read the synopsis and I WAS HOOKED. I was also idiotic enough to THAT DAY find her website and ask about an ARC. Yeah. Ok. I admit it. However, I have tracked it since then, and here it is. I’m in shock.

Liam (not the literacy cat) posed beautifully for the first picture. However, he seemed to take a genuine interest in the second, unposed, picture. Can’t say I blame him.

Eight Will Fall by Sarah Harian is out November 25 via Henry Holt Publishing (please add it to your Goodreads TBR Shelves). Thank you to Sarah and Henry Holt/MacMillan for the ARC.
In a world where magic is illegal, eight criminals led by rebellious Larkin are sent on a mission to rid their realm of an ancient evil lurking beneath the surface. Descending into a world full of unspeakable horrors, Larkin and her crew must use their forbidden magic to survive.

Lovers of dark, high-octane adventure will be enthralled by this genre-bending YA fantasy standalone, perfect for fans of Kendare Blake and Leigh Bardugo.

Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron- 9/19

Pavel did a brilliant job as model and took quite a liking to the book as you can see however…

CAN WE TALK ABOUT THAT COVER?! AND I’M NOT A COVER PERSON BUT JUST…. WHAT EVEN IS A COVER?! MERCY. Yes Ma’am. Magic Comes at a Price.

Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron is out September 19th (according to spine of the ARC) via HarperTeen/HarperCollins (please add it to your Goodreads TBR Shelves). Thank you to Rena and Harper Teen/HarperCollins for the ARC.
Magic has a price—if you’re willing to pay.

  • An epic fantasy trilogy with a richly imagined world inspired by the author’s own West African roots.
  • High stake twists, alluring magic, and breathtaking star-crossed romance will have you racing to the final page.
  • An epic fantasy trilogy about about a girl caught between gods, monsters, and her own mother’s schemes.

Born into a family of powerful witchdoctors, Arrah yearns for magic of her own. But each year she fails to call forth her ancestral powers, while her ambitious mother watches with growing disapproval.
There’s only one thing Arrah hasn’t tried, a deadly last resort: trading years of her own life for scraps of magic. Until the Kingdom’s children begin to disappear, and Arrah is desperate to find the culprit.
She uncovers something worse. The long-imprisoned Demon King is stirring. And if he rises, his hunger for souls will bring the world to its knees… unless Arrah pays the price for the magic to stop him.
Inspired by tales of folk magic in her own community, Rena Barron spins a darkly magical tale perfect for fans of Tomi Adeyemi, Leigh Bardugo and Three Dark Crowns.

Once Gomez sulked off the photo shoot because he was informed he couldn’t read Jackpot until fall, Pavel really picked up the slack, masterfully showing off the beautiful Serpent and Dove.

Lou, unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, must make a choice. And love makes fools of us all.

Katherine Tegen is going to do what Katherine Tegen is going to do. Following the likes of Heroine by Mindy McGinnis and the upcoming September release of Suggested Reading by Dave Connis, which takes on book banning through a student’s fight against school policyCracking the Bell takes a deep dive on the repercussions of concussions in football.
Friday Night Lights meets Concussion in this powerful and important novel by Geoff Herbach, exploring the dangerous concussion crisis in football through the eyes of a high school team captain.

While recovering from a concussion, Isaiah wonders what his life would look like without the game. All his friends are on the team, and Isaiah knows they can’t win without him. The scholarship offer from Cornell is only on the table if he keeps playing.
And without football, what would keep his family together? What would prevent him from sliding back into the habits that nearly destroyed him?
Isaiah must decide how much he’s willing to sacrifice for the sport that gave him everything, even if playing football threatens to take away his future.
