Book Publicity, Book Reviews, And Author Interviews

The Folk Of The Air Book Tag

Sorry I went AWOL yesterday— I will never wish on my worst enemy being a lifeguard at a pool that gets shutdown by the city. NEVER. But I’m back… so let’s have some fun, shall we?

I planned to run a tag today and came across this one at Laurie’s Bookshelf (EN) and laughed myself something ridiculous. Laurie credits Rain as to how she found it, so I wanted to make sure and credit her, as well. With my love of  the Folk of the Air series and in anticipation of The Queen of Nothing, I definitely needed this tag in my life.

Rules:

  1.  You must tag the original creator (Xandra @ Starry Sky Books)
  2. Spoilers galore! You should probably read The Cruel Prince first! (You don’t really need to read The Wicked King, but that would be nice.)
  3. Answer all the questions There were a few I omitted because the didn’t quite apply to me at this moment.
  4. Try to tag at least 3 other bloggers. I jut tagged a bunch of bloggers in a tag so I’m going to leave this one open to anyone who would like to join the fun

1) Jude: A character who would probably kill you in your sleep

K… NO… I’m not taking the easy way out on this one and I want to use him for a different question anyway… so fooled you! So let’s keep to the “books many of us are anticipating and are wrapping up a series theme”….
The scythedom. When you gotta go… you gotta go.  That is their job and purpose after all. They might wake you up and all but they know when you are sleeping, they know when you’re awake. They just couldn’t care less if you are bad or good… well they aren’t supposed to any way ;)….

The Toll (Arc of a Scythe)

Cardan: A character who seems like a Bad Guy™ but is ultimately more complex than you thought

I’m sticking Kaz here. This is a give me. I really should just type this up in word so I an cut and paste it. Not that I feel I really have to explain it. Kaz is a son of a bitch. He has a penchant for violence, cruelty and puts the brutal in brutal honesty. He asks the impossible and takes NO  excuses- just get it done. There are no kind words, thanks or birthday cards or waffles with apple syrup.
BUT   Kaz shows trust– it rides a thin thread. You break it? Well go ask Jesper if he’s earned that back, yet. He makes decisions for you whether you like them or not but he often makes them in your best interests, which shocks even him. He’s pissed at Jesper but he doesn’t give him the damn drug and makes sure his guns come back. For all his bickering with Nina he wouldn’t take his eyes off her at the ice court because he feared for her safety. He dispenses philosophical advice to Wylan about how shame lines his pockets and not letting it get the best of him.  He could’ve kept Wylan’s fortune or split amongst the group. He didn’t. He did the right thing. He stole Wylan’s money back for Wylan. Gave him his mom back (not the right way, but he did). And then there’s Inej… protecting an investment? Please. He’s like a 7 year-old the playground that pulls the girls hair and runs because he likes her.
He suffers from PTSD and haphephobia, which doesn’t help anything. He may not know how to tell the people around him or even always show it in appropriate ways (like taking an eyeball out, or sending Wylan into the mindfield of finding out his mom was alive at an asylum rather than dead at a graveyard), but he does care and he is loyal.
If this isn’t complex then I don’t know what is.

Locke: A book/plot twist that made you want to throw the book

AKA…. books that made reading a contact sport?  I’m going with Tiffany Jacks because no one says plot twist Like Tiffany Jackson. I think her name should just be a verb. Like. I Tiffany Jacksoned that shit. That should be a thing.
AllegedlyMonday's Not ComingLet Me Hear a Rhyme

Taryn: A character who deceived you

Cheska from The Written by Ben Galley. And I’m just gonna leave it at that.
The Written (Emaneska Series Book 1)

Valerian: A character who just needs to die (or, you know, get stabbed)

Scythe Goddard – if someone doesn’t gleam his ass already…

Oak: A smol™ character you would protect at all costs

Nikolai. Definitely Nikolai. That boy has been through so much. Can it please just stop? Please? I don’t think it will. He’ll never get his happy ending.
King of Scars (King of Scars Duology)

The Queen of Nothing: A book you’re excited for, but know nothing about.

I know very little about the Ninth House, Kingdom for a Stage (other than having read the first book in the series- For a Muse of Fire), The Toll (other than having read Scythe and Thunderhead)  and Court of Lions (other than having read Mirage). Court of Lions being the one I probably know next to nothing about- there hasn’t even been a cover reveal yet.  OH!  And speaking of cover reveals- the sequel to Gilded Wolves- The Silvered Serpents.
And there you have it! Comments? Thoughts? Opinions? What would you have put down? Do you like my choices or hate them? Run with the tag, comment on mine or forever hold your bookish peace!
